The Grass Roots Jagerwurst was created by Bentonville-based chef Travis McConnell. Inspired by the traditional German style, McConnell used the classic Bavarian technique and spices—including garlic, nutmeg, and ginger— to create a proprietary recipe unique to the Grass Roots kitchen. Powdered milk is used as a binder to keep moisture in while the sausage is smoked. And just enough spices are added so that the flavor of the forested pork is enhanced but not overwhelmed.

During development, we invited 50 customers to taste test and work with us to make it the best jagerwurst ever. And guess what? It is. Here’s what a few of you had to say…

The sausage is smoked and can be eaten cold. But jagerwurst is also delicious warmed with a quick stove-top sear or thrown onto a grill.

All of our hogs live outdoors and forage in their natural woodland habitat. Their grazing is supplemented with a custom-mix feed ration containing probiotics and lots of nutrients. None of our pork contain hormones, antibiotics, or genetically modified organisms.
