RECIPE: CHOCOLATE COVERED BACON
It’s the season for summer fairs and festivals, and we’ve got the perfect treat in mind: Chocolate Covered Bacon!
Fairs are one of the best parts of summer. The dazzling bright lights and flashy colors, carnival rides and games keep kids darting from one side of the midway to the other. There are music acts, farming displays and of course—all kinds of food.
So many favorites jump to mind: a sticky, sweet caramel apple or an ear of roasted sweet corn drenched in grass-fed butter. And each year there seems to be some new, creative food to pique our interest.
The newest is chocolate-covered bacon. The salty, savory flavor of the crispy bacon balances perfectly with the smooth sweet chocolate. But why wait for a festival to enjoy this treat? Chocolate-covered bacon is really easy to make and great for a quick treat or to surprise you guest at your next get together.
CHOCOLATE-COVERED BACON ON A STICK
- chocolate spread
- bamboo skewers
- Thread one slice of bacon onto a bamboo skewer. Make sure that the folds of the bacon are not touching. Place the skewers on a baking rack on a cooking sheet. Put the cooking sheet into a cold oven and turn it to 400°F. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until brown and very crispy. Remove from oven, gently blot any excess grease, and let cool.
- Use approximately 1 tablespoon of chocolate spread for each skewer of bacon. Spoon chocolate spread into a microwave safe bowl. Heat in microwave for 15-second intervals until the spread is shiny and runny.
- Spoon the melted chocolate spread onto the bacon. For a smoother texture, use a small brush to smooth the chocolate over the bacon.
