Sometimes I crave a burger but I want something other than the typical lettuce, tomato, and slice of yellow cheese. Sometimes I crave breakfast at all hours of the day. Since we raise chickens, eggs are always a-plenty. Around here, there is a never-ending search for creative ways to “put an egg on it!”

Why not combine the two in this tasty and easy meal? In addition to using farm fresh eggs, choosing heritage bacon and grass-fed beef provides more flavor and health benefits. Some research suggests that when meat comes from animals raised on a natural diet free of hormones or industrial grain, it contains lower fat levels and an increase in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidant vitamins. This breakfast on a burger recipe combines that healthy meat and a few simple ingredients, adding ease and variety to the weekly meal plan.

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Strips of cooked bacon
  • Eggs
  • Fig jam or spread
  • Goat cheese
  • Onion rolls, sliced


  1. Heat grill for cooking burgers.
  2. Cook bacon until crisp & brown. Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare your ground beef by combining all the spices and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Mix by hand thoroughly and divide into four patties. Cook on the grill until the desired level of doneness has been reached. Butter the inside of the onion rolls and toast them on the grill.
  4. Cook the fried eggs to your liking. These could be sunny side up or over easy for those that don’t enjoy a runny yoke.
  5. Assemble the burgers by spreading the fig jam on both sides of the rolls. Crumble goat cheese onto the bottom roll. Set the burger on top of the goat cheese. Top with slices of crispy bacon and a fried egg.
